Moog Driveline Master Catalog

If you are chasing a clunk on tip-in, a vibrating driveshaft, a torn CV boot, or a greaseable vs sealed U-joint decision, the Moog Driveline Master Catalog (F4005, January 2019) is the book we keep for foreign and domestic U-joint and CV applications. It supersedes F4005 dated June 2014 and sits beside the Moog Chassis Masters and coil book under Catalogs—not as another ball-joint year dump.

This page is a guide to that source book—how the catalog is organized, how to read a U-joint or CV-boot row, what Super Strength greasable / non-greasable / Premium columns mean, and where Double Cardan and strap/U-bolt kits show up. What this book is (and is not)

It is: Moog’s Driveline Master Catalog, form F4005 (January 2019)—applications for import and North American vehicles. Cover callouts highlight case-hardened bearing cups, steel crosses, nitrile grease seals, radial / needle-bearing design, and greaseable construction. Inside, the sheets are application tables by make and model for the driveline parts Moog catalogs in this book.

It is not: the Moog Chassis Master (ball joints, control arms, tie rods, hubs)—use the 2007–2018, 1991–2006, and 1990 and older guides for those. It is also not the Moog Coil Springs catalog (F2925). Springs and U-joints are different problems even when the same truck needs both.

How the book is organized

F4005 is a long application master (1,100+ pages in the PDF we archive). Product families you will actually see on the sheets:

  • CV Joint Boot Kits — inner/outer neoprene (and related) boot kits with qty-per-car, figure, and position callouts. Front-drive and many AWD applications live here first.
  • U-Joint Products — the core of the book for RWD / 4×4 driveshafts. Columns typically split Super Strength Greasable, Super Strength Non-Greasable, and Premium Number, plus qty, figure, and position.
  • Double Cardan CV Products — constant-velocity / double-Cardan style driveline parts where Moog lists them for the application (common on many 4×4 front shafts and some rear CV setups).
  • U-Joint Strap Kits & U-Bolt Kits — retention hardware called out under U-joint products (e.g. rear strap or U-bolt kits with their own SKUs).

Center supports / center bearings: this master does not run a giant standalone “center support” chapter the way some catalogs do. Instead, At Center Bearing / At Support Bearing appear as positions on U-joint (and related) application lines for two- and three-joint shafts. Read the position column—do not assume every mid-ship bearing is a separate Moog SKU family in this PDF.

How to read a U-joint row

Left to right, a typical U-joint application line is:

  • Year range — newest-first stacked ranges (e.g. 2017–2016). Confirm your year sits inside.
  • Model / application notes — 2WD vs 4×4, 2-joint vs 3-joint driveshaft, steel vs aluminum yoke, bearing outside diameter or bearing-cap diameter, snap-ring thickness, Flex Fuel / diesel splits, wheelbase notes, and “conventional lube fitting in body” callouts.
  • Position — At Transmission, At Rear Axle, At Center Bearing / Support Bearing, Front Driveshaft At Front Axle, Front Driveshaft At Transfer Case, Rear Driveshaft At Transmission, etc. Measure or count joints before you order.
  • SKU columns — Super Strength greasable, Super Strength non-greasable, and Premium when listed. Qty per car, figure letter, and position number finish the row.

CV boot kit rows are simpler: years, model/application, boot kit SKU, qty per car, figure, and position (inner vs outer). Do not grab an outer boot SKU for an inner job because the neoprene kit “looks the same in the bag.”

Greasable vs non-greasable vs Premium

  • Super Strength Greasable — Moog’s serviceable U-joint path when the book lists one. Good when you want to maintain the joint and the yoke/driveshaft design allows it.
  • Super Strength Non-Greasable — sealed Super Strength listing for the same geometry when Moog offers both (or only the sealed option).
  • Premium Number — the Premium column SKU when present. Same application logic; different Moog grade / feature set. Do not mix grades across joints on one shaft unless you know why.

Bearing-cap diameter, snap-ring thickness, and yoke outside diameter notes are not decoration—wrong cap OD or clip style is how you buy a U-joint that “almost” installs. If the sheet lists 1.188″ bearing cap diameter and greaseable, match both.

How to use the book without fooling yourself

  • Count the joints — 2-joint vs 3-joint shafts change which SKUs and which positions apply. A long-wheelbase van is not the short-bed twin.
  • 4×4 means front shaft too — front driveshaft at axle and at transfer case are separate lines from the rear shaft.
  • Boots are not joints — a CV boot kit does not replace a failed CV joint or a Double Cardan assembly. Diagnose click/clunk vs torn boot before you order only a boot.
  • Hardware matters — strap kits and U-bolt kits are called out for a reason. Reusing stretched straps is a comeback.
  • Chassis is still separate — worn U-joints and worn ball joints can feel similar on a road test. Use Mechanics’ Files / Chassis Master guides for the corner; use F4005 for the shaft.
